Stacy and her boyfriend Bobby were sitting in their car on a night at the park. They had read a lot about the Son of Sam and Stacy was particularly terrified becuase she knew that he targeted young women and couples in public places, which fits their description exactly. Her boyfriend encouraged her to get out of the car and take a walk in the park, realizing moments later that it was the worst thing that they could do. They noticed a man following them, and headed back into the car and began to kiss. All of a sudden, Bobby noticed a humming sound, and then the shattering of glass. Bobby had been shot twice in the face, and Stacy once in the head, killing her later in the hospital. Police arrived quickly at the scene to begin scanning for evidence.
This case is significant because it is the last attempt at a persons life the Son of Sam got. Days after the incident, police began to investigate the Carr's letters to them and how the family thought they knew who the killer was. All it took was a few little pieces of evidence for the police to have a better profile and a good idea who the killer was, now it was just time for a little bit of surveilance and background checks to be able to put him behind bars.
